A Hundred Days And A Thousand Miles Away, I Got My Perfect First Date

How I came across Tinder is a whole new post, but let's just say that the app has stayed on my phone for quite some time. I had just gotten out of a relationship that lasted a few years, so maybe I didn't seem to have the need to use it.

Post the break-up, I was in Delhi to meet my best friend, with whom I was supposed to stay for 3 days, but she got tired of me within 2 days and wanted me to leave her alone since she had her examinations around the corner.

Back then, I didn't know many people in Delhi and hence, resorted to Tinder to meet a date, or maybe even hook-up with someone nice. I swiped right on two men, both of their profiles matched mine, but I was more keen on the second one. To my luck, the first initiated the conversation but was uninteresting, so that option was out of the window.

For the first time, I left my woman-ego aside and wrote to the guy I was keen on, complimenting him for his lovely beard (I have a thing for bearded men). I did not receive a response. Unfortunately, I had to head back to Bangalore the next day.

About 3 months later, (by this time I am in an emotionally-only-exclusive-long-distance relationship) I received a message on Tinder and it was from the very same Tinder boy who had the audacity to ignore my message for months (Kidding! He later confirmed he had issues with his phone and didn't have the app). I informed him that it was too late, as I had swiped right on him when I was in Delhi, and he goes, "Wait, I am in Bangalore".

"Wow! Are you from here?" I said, wondering if luck was really on my side. But he was there only for a project and was leaving the next day. I was taken aback by this coincidence. We chatted for a bit, exchanged numbers and decided to meet just because it felt like serendipity.

We met at a place of his choice, he had booked a table, and we had some brewed beer and good food. Although I was in a polyamorous relationship, although the Tinder boy and I had some strong vibes going on, we were so engrossed in the conversation, that we neither hooked-up nor carried anything forward but our friendship and fond memories.

He messages me every now and then, checking on me, and asking me whether I'll ever visit Delhi. Strangely, his work that got him to Bangalore, doesn't seem to bring him back anymore.

Nevertheless, he's on my mind as a fond memory and also the story of how I met my first Tinder date.
