She Grew Close To Me, Only To Marry Someone Else...

( words)
*For representational purpose only.
I was in class IX, where I enrolled in English, history, and geography tuition classes. We had a group of four people from various schools and backgrounds... As the classes began, we were introduced to one another and spent some time speaking with each other...

There was a girl who was more into herself and spoke very little. She caught my attention.
As the days passed, we both got to know each other better. We got to know about our families, our social circle, our likes, dislikes, etc. Our class X board examinations were the next year, and we helped each other since we knew something connected us... There was no WhatsApp during those days, so text messages were our style.

Through high school (XI and XII), our bond remained strong, but our friendship was getting deeper. At times, when I was down with a fever, she would look after me and vice versa.
The cohort thereafter grew from four to eight students in high school (XI and XII). She was becoming close to another guy. I didn't know about it until a friend from the batch informed me.

Our parents were aware of our close connection and deep bond. When the Class XII board examinations arrived, our bond somehow grew stronger.
She occasionally took my notes and would forget to return them, despite the fact that she was told to do so 15 minutes ago. Anyway, we passed with good marks in Class XII.

Then came the actual chapter: college life. The first year was fine; second year, I passed with honours, but she flunked two examinations and was promoted to general stream, and then we got busy with our lives...

After college, I went on to do my Masters, and she went into teaching.

After completing my master's degree, I went back to work. I was aware of what was going on in her life. I didn't pay heed to what was going on in her life since I was stationed outside of my present city. After around six months, I returned to my family's business.

That’s when  I took the initiative to contact her, and she enthusiastically answered. There was a moment when I truly felt things would return to normal between us. She was preoccupied with her classes, and I, was with my work.
After two months, I got to know that her roka got fixed with the same guy she was close to in high school... I wished her happiness.

She accepted my friend request on social media after two years, and I didn't pay any heed to it either.

We talked and shared our daily routine and what we wanted in our lives. I still had hope that things might get back to normal.

A year later, her marriage was fixed. We spoke to each other a month before her marriage. She got married and didn't invite me...I recently viewed a video of her wedding and wished her luck on WhatsApp.
At present, we know each other's secret lives, but I respect that integrity is maintained, and a few hi-hello texts are even done today. She was my best friend. But, little did I know, there’s another side to this story.

It's not the broken bond that hurts; it's the little things that used to matter but are now only memories.
