I Got My Prince Charming, And Then Another One Came Along

*For representational purpose only.

It’s been almost 2 years since I got married to the love of my life. We dated for 10 years.

Our story was no less than any Karan Johar movie.

My husband and I met when we were in class 12. Ours was never a typical love story. It was only when we were apart for further studies that we started feeling something for each other.

It took us 7 years to recognize our love. Initially, his parents were not happy with our relationship but later they agreed and we got married in April 2016.

Even though my in-laws are orthodox, I’ve been able to adjust well to them and my extended family.

After marriage, my in-laws realized that I was the ideal one for their family and they would've missed a perfect "bahu"(My father-in-law said so in front of my husband) had they not agreed for this match.

My life was a fairy tale. I was the only princess in my new kingdom as my husband is an only son.

Little did I know that another prince was about to enter my life.

My husband is in a sales job and travels a lot for meetings. He was going on his first trip after marriage to Zurich.

Since I love traveling, it was heartbreaking for me to know that I couldn’t accompany him on his trip.

I was a bit upset and was also missing him after he left. Facebook was the only way for us to chat or talk and I would wait for his call even when I was in office. Instagram was my new time pass at the time.

One day, I received a message from a stranger on Instagram. He wanted to know if I was a Punjabi. I ignored the message at first, but when he kept asking me, I had to reply that I was not a Punjabi.

I instantly received another message where he said he liked my profile and me and intended to propose marriage if I were a Punjabi.

I told him that I was married and was not a Punjabi. This message exchange went on for a day because we were in different time zones (He is in Canada).

I don’t know how it happened but he became a good friend of mine.

He is younger than me and I just treat him like a friend. But 2 days ago, he told me something shocking.

I was busy at my cousin's wedding and could not text him for 2 days. That’s when he messaged me that he was missing me. However, I did not take it seriously because he keeps making fun of me.

But this time he was serious. He kept asking me to marry him.

Ultimately, I stopped messaging him but now, I do miss my good friend.

I want him to know that I do feel sorry for hurting his feelings. But he must understand that it’s not possible for me to leave my husband who loves me more than anything else in this world.

Virat, if you are reading this, I want to apologize if I have ever behaved in a manner that made you develop feelings for me.

Until you understand that we can only be friends, I can’t text you back.

But I do want to convey one last thing, "I miss you yaar…"

We are good friends and will remain just friends. Aur agar agla janam hai, toh tera ishq banne ki mannat rakhti hun.
