What It Means To Be A Learner Teacher

( words)
*For representational purpose only.

This teacher's day, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has crossed my path and been a part of my journey.

I am a learner teacher! This is exactly how I feel after being in the education industry as "Just A Teacher ". The term 'just a Teacher' - I have heard so many times in the last 10 years from various people around me. But I wouldn't let those people bother me and go ahead with my learnings.

In these 10 years, I have worked with 3 schools that have quite a reputation for themselves. With each school, I have learnt so many things that I am grateful for. Some major learnings I would like to share today.

The first school and being a fresher in the industry. My first major learning was how to be patient and productive at the same time. The second and the most important lesson was to be a teacher and not a mother. Yes I know, it sounds super confusing as teachers are considered second mothers to a child. But this was very well explained during my training as when a teacher becomes a mother for students in the class, she tends to avoid the mistakes or shortcomings of the children that affect the growth of the children.

As teachers, we are supposed to help children overcome those shortcomings and lead to progress. In the second school, duration was very short but I learnt that you would always find people who would take any opportunity to put you down and take credit for the work done by you, but it's just fine because eventually the hard work pays off to the ones who do it.

In the third or as I may say my current school where I am working now, I have learnt and experienced that hard work when done smartly definitely pays off and you earn your recognition.

I have learnt and applied the terms perspective and empathy in my daily life, which helps me not to judge anyone quickly and always listen to the other side of the story, feel and be respectful in all situations.

So today I would like to thank all my colleagues, my subordinates, my coordinators , HOD and the Principal of these schools who has helped me in becoming what I am today.

Most of all, I would like to thank all those children who have been my students in all these years. You are my true heroes. The way you adapt to things and situations without much difficulty and always with a smile, you inspire me and motivate me to continue being a "Learner Teacher ".
