It all started when I was a young girl and my cousin used to visit us for her summer vacations. Both of us would talk about getting married, having babies, going for holidays together and our children being the best of friends. Then one fine day life hit us hard.

She was 30 and still unmarried. No career, no babies. She finally got married at 31 and divorced at 32. Me? I got married at 23 and divorced at 28.

So, the two people had dreamt of being happily married with babies were now divorced without any children. I got married again at 31 while she was still looking for the ‘right guy’ at 35.

We were never career oriented girls; we were always average students and never had big dreams professionally. It had been 5 years and my husband and I were trying desperately to have a baby. We visited the best fertility clinics in India and consulted the best doctors in Mumbai and Delhi and had three failed IVF cycles and one failed IUI cycle.

Shattered and broken we took the decision of leaving all this behind and decided to adopt a baby instead.

To all the ladies, all I can say is that adoption hasn’t changed my feeling of motherhood at all. I will soon be having my baby in my arms and even though I am not pregnant, I can feel the love and care for a child I haven’t even seen.
