We Meet Once In Six Months But That Only Makes Our Love Stronger

This is an open letter to all those women who are worried about falling in love with a man in uniform.

You shouldn’t be.

I’m in love with an Assistant Commandant in the Indian Coast Guard. This means no calls, no messages for long durations. Every six months, he’s allowed to keep his phone, but not a fancy one where we can share images or voice notes, a simple one where he can make calls and text me from. And honestly, that’s more than I could ever ask for.

His messages brighten my day and my SMS sound has become my favorite notification!

It’s been nine months now, and his never-ending love and support have transformed me into a better person.

The way we care for each other, it’s something I definitely can’t express in words. Him entering my life is a blessing and I wouldn’t leave it all for anything the world had to offer me. Of course, there are times, when I see other couples, holding hands or going on dates, it pinches me. But one phone call later, it’s all okay.

I guess sometimes, you just need that one person of yours, to know that your life is absolutely perfect and his love is all that you need.

I wait for him, eagerly. He comes to visit me once in six months. But when I see him, his smile, his dimples; it still makes me go weak in the knees. It’s going to take us some time, to settle down: with respect to our families, finances, our responsibilities, but I know that everything will fall into place when it has to.

There are no shortcuts when it comes to marriage; and we wouldn't take any, even if there were.

I’m desperately waiting for the day I can be his, Mrs. Assistant Commandant and fulfill his ‘Mehendi vali fantasy!’, it’s our little secret.

My Dear Assistant Commandant,

It’s not easy loving a busy man like you, but it’s worth it. Because at the end of the day, a short text from you makes me realize how important I am. How I’m loved passionately and truly cared for by a man like you. We may be miles apart, but you’re worth every mile between us.

I love you.
