"Therefore, dare to be free, dare to go as far as your thought leads, and dare to carry that out in your life."
- Swami Vivekananda, The Free Soul (1896)

Let me explain these beautiful words of Swami Vivekananda through a small story.

Once an elephant was kept in captivity since the time he was born. His hind leg was chained. The chain was just long enough to let him move around for a few meters. One day, a kind man came and unchained him and shoved him to go.

For the first time in his life, the elephant was free from the bonds, free to run to the jungles that lay across the road. The man felt happy for what he has done and went his own way.

A few days later, he was crossing the same path. Out of curiosity, he walked an extra mile to the same patch of land where he had unchained that elephant. He was stunned when he saw that elephant still standing there. He glanced down at his legs expecting to see the familiar chain.

But to his surprise, the elephant was not bound from any chain.

He went around the elephant to assess what was stopping him from claiming his freedom. But he failed to see any physical bond that could have restrained him. The man pondered on this and then suddenly the realization dawned on him. It’s not anything physical that was keeping the elephant chained but his own thoughts seemed to have formed an invisible bond around him.

Isn’t that exactly with each one of us?

We are slaves of our own thoughts. Our own thoughts lead us to failure. Just try telling your child today, that he is going to be the President of the country in the future.

He will laugh at you and say, "Are you kidding? Please be practical." This is exactly how our own thoughts limit us.

Swami Vivekananda, in his statement, is inspiring us to be free from the captivity of our own thoughts, free from the finiteness of our beliefs. Then and only then can we achieve the stars.

Nothing, nothing at all is impossible. Whatever your mind can conceive, you can be.  Just add the spices of faith, hard work, and perseverance into it. And whoa! It becomes  reality! So, let your thoughts wander into the oasis of infinity. Think big thoughts and work tirelessly towards achieving them but do not make the mistake of getting attached to them.

The moment you attach yourself to your thought or dream, it will become a burden to you.

Remember, actions imitate thoughts. And the day we start believing in our ideas, our thoughts, our beliefs, no one can stop us from conquering the world.
